How To Make A Hiking Bench

How To Make A Hiking Bench

Today, we’re going to speak on how to construct your own hiking bench at your residence. So to get started, we have to start making our cuts. Now, we were lucky enough to get some lumber left over from a fence that we could use.

How To Make A Hiking Bench?

What we need?

So to start off to make the base. We have to cut two lengths of two by six at 53 inches. So let’s get started. So we got a piece of art two by six here. We’re going to measure up to 53 right there. We’re going to take our trusty square the line across the way.

We go now we can get to cutting our two side pieces. Now we’ve got the two side pieces cut. We can make the end piece, and now the end piece will be 17 inches. And then once that is cut, we can put together the whole base. Got our 17-inch piece now cut.

Making Base:

We’ve got our two side pieces cut right down here. Now we can get together the base, and then we can start worrying about making the top to assemble this. We are going to be using three-inch deck screws purely because it’s what we have. We are sure there’s better hardware to use for this, but it’s what we got during this time. we don’t want to be running him and picking up all sorts of extra gear.

So turning to this as minimal as possible now, we are going to be running some pilot holes through this purely. Because we don’t have any 90-degree brackets to hold this all together. So we don’t want to be splitting the wood while We are trying to hike out on this bench. And we ended up falling, so I’m going to do my best to make this structure as sound as possible. And we’ll see what happens to start putting together.

Testing our base:

The base once the phases are together. We can start putting the top one. Now that we have the base done. We can start focusing on cutting the lengths for the top now. The top boards will be two by sixes, and they’re going to be 22 inches long each.  We are going to cut one to see how it fits. We’ll blast out the rest. So we’ve got our test piece, the top section that’s going to be 22 inches long., so why don’t we throw it on here to get a little preview.

That’s going to fit real, so now we can cut up the other two and start talking about getting these guys mounted on top. Our first board, so where we are going to place it is going to be 16 and 1/2 inches back from the front of the hike bench. I’ll explain that a little bit more once we mark this up. So we’re going to put this measuring tape here come back 16 inches.

Making Back:

What we’re basically doing is measuring back far enough so that our feet can reach the hiking strap that we’re going to install. And then our calves will be resting at the proper spot where say our deck would normally rest on the laser so in this instance back down. There we’re leaving a small gap of for nap inches from the front and then from there. We’re leaving a two-and-a-half gap for the hiking strap.

So that two and a half gap doesn’t necessarily have to be two and a half inches. The most important part is the distance from where that part ends, and then your next part begins. So this gap here needs to be nine and a half inches for this kind of work. We can start mounting our boards, and then we’re just about done. [music] what online people tend to make a nice relief cut along here.

An inch or two back from the last port down to about an inch to up off the ground. It seems good. Because you can imagine if you’re looking out the last thing you want is to take this corner right into your back. Yeah, we’re trying to get stronger, not more broken. The first thing before that is we’re going to be attaching our strap and just seeing how the practiced route we have here worked.

Conclusion:

We’re going to give us a shot here, just trying to figure out the best method of connecting these straps. So We are just going to loop that through there run this across now this is a brand new strap. But just for the sake of trimming this, see if it works. Now the one thing we do really like about using ratchet-strap and the ratchet is its adjustable. So you like a loose strap. If you like a tight strap, you’re able to moderate the looseness that the strap is giving. So that’s not bad.
